US Indicts 10 Foreign Nationals for Crypto Wash Trading

- Ten foreign nationals have been indicted by U.S. federal grand juries for their alleged involvement in cryptocurrency wash trading schemes.
- The defendants represent four major crypto firms: Gotbit, Vortex, Antier, and Contrarian.
- Authorities have already seized more than $1 million in digital assets as part of the ongoing investigation.
Market Manipulation Tactics
Federal prosecutors in the Northern District of California allege that the individuals orchestrated sophisticated pump-and-dump schemes designed to deceive the investing public. By engaging in wash trading, the defendants allegedly created a false illusion of high trading volume and organic market activity. This artificial demand lured unsuspecting investors into purchasing cryptocurrencies at inflated prices, leading to significant financial losses both within the United States and internationally.
Extraditions and Court Appearances
Recent legal actions saw the extradition of high-ranking executives from Singapore. On Monday, Gleb Gora, a 24-year-old Russian national and CEO of Vortex, appeared in a federal court in Oakland. Gora, along with colleagues Sergei Ryzhkov and Michael Vogel, had been indicted in August on charges of wire fraud conspiracy.
Similarly, Indian nationals and Contrarian executives Manu Singh and Vasu Sharma made their initial court appearances following their extradition. Other individuals named in the indictments include Kushagra Srivastava of Contrarian, Sabby Singh of Antier, and several employees from Gotbit, including Ian Sofronov.
Sentencing and Penalties
Legal repercussions for those involved are severe, with defendants facing up to 20 years in federal prison and fines of $250,000 for every individual violation. Some participants have already seen legal resolutions; Antoine Tsao and Nemanja Popov of Gotbit have pleaded guilty and received their sentences. Furthermore, Gotbit founder Aleksei Andriunin was previously sentenced to eight months in prison in June 2025 for his role in facilitating millions of dollars in fraudulent wash trades.
